TLS 0.59.0 Released!

New update for supporters on Patreon or SubscribeStarVersion history updated, you know what to do, etc.

TLS 0.59.0
 - New segment finishing the Incubus War.
 - Minor edits to the prison content.
 - New scenes, the number depending on how you count them.
 - Art exists for 14 new scenes, but to make my release window, it was deferred. Expect it to be added to the .1 or .2 update.

The Incubus War got away from me just a little bit, requiring three updates instead of two, but I hope that this one will be worth it. Every element of the plot got its due, long or short, and I feel like I wrapped up a lot of major plot threads in a way I hope everyone will find satisfying.

There is a substantial amount of calculation in the back of this one, plus there may be some slight rebalancing on the entire war, so this one might take more than a week. But please look forward to it!

  3. Hi, I've just played the 59.0 build and I wanted ask if this a bug in the part where Alonon does the you-know-what, and the scene goes back to Simon and freezes. Is that bug or is it the end of the current build?

  4. I'm getting a bug while playing through the current build. At the end of the 2nd fight from the end of the last update, where you make a decision to defend against the attack or push forward, It just seems to be a black sceen. The save file identifies the location as the tower knot but its just black screen with esc button working.

    1. I'm unclear which moment you're talking about, but please report bugs on Patreon. I know people are going to pirate the game, but this tends to lead to many outdated or erroneous bug reports.

  5. I'm very much looking forward to the Steam update; your work is incredible, and I've thoroughly enjoyed the games I've played from you thus far. If it weren't for my being in a care home and only getting $10 a month to spend for myself, I'd certainly be donating to your Patreon. But, I unfortunately can't. So I wanted you to at the very least know how much your work is appreciated by me. I found the characters endearing, the stories draw me in, and I love the agency it feels like you give the player toward the shaping of an entire world's future. Every time I play an update I can't help but tell everyone how great your game is, and I'm sure this next update will blow me away again. Thanks so much for your hard work!

    1. I know not everyone can support the game, but it will keep coming out free for you, and I'm glad you're enjoying it! By the end, I hope you find the conclusions to all those elements satisfying. ^-^

  6. I've been lurking for a while now and wanted to say I've been thoroughly enjoying this game for about a year now been enjoying the story, gameplay and especially the characters but I decided to comment because I wanted to ask some question that I have been wondering for a while and always interested me. feel free to ignore this comment or any question you don't want to answer.

1.I noticed the succbi and orcs society under the incbus king didn't seem to be affected as much by the arclent war compared to the other nations who incorporated war ideals in their very society and practices. The general population of succbi and orcs barely mention the war the closest thing we got was that one succbus who hated Simon and called him a crusader. So why does it seem the arclent war didn't affect the succbi and orcs as much as the other nations?

    2. So Simons skill reflect is canon to the story and Simon got the scene Kara X Orcent so... does that mean Simon is bombarded by images that he can feel whenever orcent and Kara do the deed? because if so that's hilarious I just imagine Simon doing paper work only to see those images and being shocked and disgusted.

    3. Necromancy is shown to be part of the magic system as shown by wynn during the Third Arclent war so I always wondered why isn't use of this magic not more prevalent? it seems to be an incredibly useful ablity that most nations don't talk about or use it so I wanted to know why.

4.while playing I got the feeling that most of the characters backstory's are incredibly important to their character so I was a bit surprised when flashbacks never shown. for example Simons relationships with Wendis, Wynn, Riala and Robin are deeply tied with his past and I always wanted to see how those relationship came to be why Simon fell deeply in love with Wendis and how deeply Simon was effected by her passing in the moment, Why Riala seemed to choose Simon and respected him while in her own words proclaimed herself cruel back then or how Simon found robin and why he chose to adopt her. So I guess the question if flashbacks aren't shown in this game have you thought about a prequel game or DLC. You could explore new characters like Linda who was mentioned in the game and the prequel short story war of lust and expand less known characters like commander geoff, king kanfuar and Alonon during the war. it wouldn't even need to focus solely on Simon maybe show Yarra's training and her upbringing and her dream of wanting to be of use for her nation only to see the incbus king himself and deciding to leave and go on her journey for a better world or hilstara becoming her own person and helping create the redlight mercanies making their betrayal in the original game have more of a effect since we are shown Hilstara history with them or even show vhala's war efforts and decision to become an unperson or varia's bandit life etc so much potential for character development. The main story would focus on Simon and his journey showing his worst and happiest moments it would deconstruct his character while also building him up and giving him more context to how he acts. it could also focus on the darker aspects of TLS and explore things we don't see in the main story and be able to do thing you couldn't normally in TLS imagine the possibility's like showing the incbus king in a more intimidating and darker style or Simons descent into depression. So if flashbacks arent shown and TLS is done and its been a couple of years since You probably wont be able to look at Rpg maker without feeling sick do you think its possible? sorry for the long paragraph but I've been so intrigued by the past of the game.

    5. which character would you be roommates with a why?

Thx for reading if you did and If you don't want to answer that's fine. I had more questions but I think I would be over doing it. I've been following your work and been enjoying a lot of it keep up the fantastic work!

    1. I'm glad you've been enjoying the game so much! Questions are fine. ^-^

      1) This is because orc and succubus culture didn't change nearly as much. They stayed living under an Incubus King as they moved to a new continent, conquering territory instead of losing it. Also bear in mind the differing lifespans: many adult succubi in the present of the game weren't alive during the Second Arclentian War.

      2) Haha, this is a break from canon because players want a scene replay.

      3) Necromancy is useful, but its complexity renders it difficult to use in chaotic war situations. Combine that with its obvious negative reputation and it's never been as popular as other disciplines of magic.

      4) I feel that flashbacks are a mechanism to be used sparingly, especially when they're primarily for character development. You might see other stories set before the game, but I think a full prequel would be retracing too much ground.

      5) Probably Robin. She's quiet, tidy, and unlikely to host orgies in the apartment.

  9. Thanks! TLS will be a self-contained experience with a definitive ending, but it's possible that I'll return to the world of Crimson Gray eventually. I do have stories in mind for Lizzie and John, such as them navigating marriage and children.

  10. Thanks for the update. Do I need to restart from the beginning? I don't want to miss anything.

    1. You can move your save files into the new folder and pick up without problems! Do keep save backups at various points, especially before the newest content, but I try to keep everything compatible.

  11. Question: how did you find names for your characters? Particularly, Ginasta is an incredible sounding name, yet none of the sources I usually go to have any mention of it.

    1. With this project I don't usually draw from real or mythological names, so it's just based on my (rather simple) linguistic rules for the world.

  12. So I actually have 2 questions, if you have the time. 1. What is the average/natural life span of a orc? I mean, do they grow elderly? 2. Did Tanuak wipe out all the dragons(my guess for what he killed), or did some survive some how?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 1) "Average" would be much less than "natural" due to violent deaths, while the latter depends on how much energy they gather and thus how fast the ogre process occurs. Assuming an orc is stable, their natural lifespan depends on their composition. Your average wild orc can't live much longer than forty years, growing gray and weak near the end, while those who underwent Balia's rebirth will be able to reach sixty.

      2) The entire species is extinct as of the present day in the game.

    2. 1) Good to know Orcent will have a few more years at least; and so about the same life span of a succubus originally

      2) Sad

      3) This is actually related to the comment above that I just noticed, but what are the linguistic rules for the world/races?

      Delete
    3. 3) Though I'm not a true conlanger, the rules are a bit more complicated than I can get into here. I do some basic work on phoneme groups and make a few other decisions to guide name construction. There are some simple things, like female names in Clentian regions tending to end in the letter "a".

    4. Speaking of phonetics, care way in on this debate on the pronunciation of Yhilin?

    5. In a text-only game, there's no canon pronunciation, but in my head Yhil rhymes with "hill".
