I created the first version of Ouroboros during my break in early 2016 (you can still play that version for free). Later in the year, I created an expanded version with over double the original content and full art for all the scenes (that's the one available from the links above). I really enjoyed creating this little experimental RPG and I'm glad it got a warm reception. ^-^

ReplyDeleteGlad you liked it! Your save won't transfer - version 2.0 has a variety of upgraded plugins that will make old saves bug out.
DeleteVersion 2.0 has a little more than double the content of the free version. Twice the sex scenes, more than twice the conversations, three new post-awakening dungeons. It's fundamentally the same game, but there's a lot more of it.
Ah, was about to say before I saw this. Saw it being offered on Nutaku, didn't realize there was the 2.0 version for purchase, vs the free one, and thought they were charging for a free game or something. I'm certainly going to check out the free version, and who knows, maybe get the 2.0 if it's worth it. Looks like an interesting concept!

DeleteHaving said that, to answer your question: Nutaku and MangaGamer give me equal returns. DLsite will be worse, itch.io might be a little better. I don't have any chance of ranking on itch.io, though, whereas sales in the other stores might keep the game on top and get it more attention for longer.

Now I suddenly see ouroboros appear on nutaku with cg and all and decided to visit the blog for info. So not only is there actual cg now, but also more gameplay!?

DLsite operates under Japanese law, which means all genitals need to be covered by a mosaic. Every other version is uncensored.

ReplyDeleteThe most likely reason is that the game's folder is in a location where the program doesn't have permission to save. It's hard to say more than that without knowing all your computer's settings, sorry.

DeleteThe fairy village is in the southeast corner overall and requires a specific tool to enter. If you're having any trouble, there's at least one guide written, I think you can find it at the TLS wiki.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the support! Right now, Ouroboros is a complete story as I intended it. The heart of the story is the cycle and what the characters learned within it. The moment when they finally escape, thousands of subjective years later, is epilogue.

I bought Ouroboros on Nutaku because I loved playing the free version before, wanted to see some of the new features, and of course wanted to support you by buying your game. However, when I tried downloading the Window version, I got an error that said "unexpected end of archive" trying to open/unzip the file. I kinda hope it's just a problem on my end, but I think you might want to look into this.
ReplyDeleteAnd in horrible hindsight, I really should have picked a cheaper place to buy the game (Nutaku was $15 yet itch.io is $10). No offense, but I rather not have to buy another copy of a game (in case the same problem happens again).
That error sounds like the download got interrupted or cut short, so I would recommend deleting it and downloading again. You shouldn't need to purchase the game again, just go back to Nutaku and you'll have an option to redownload!

DeleteI'm really enjoying the new version of the game, but I'm stuck in one spot. I tried to go through the betrayal ending of a cycle, and didn't realize until way too late that I had accidentally disposed of Viliana in the ice cave before attempting the betrayal. Because of that, I was forced to use the stone of rebirth to reset the cycle early. Now, I can't seem to get the vizier to ask me if I wanna join him again; all that happens is that Atreyan skips right to the fight every time. What specific things do I need to do to re-trigger the betrayal?
ReplyDeleteOoh... unfortunately, you can't. The betrayal ending is designed to be done only once, but I created it before adding the Stone of Rebirth and didn't consider the potential consequences. Sorry about this. =/

But meanwhile... encountering Viliana in the ice dungeon should have no impact on Atreyan's ending. She should be in the upper right room regardless. Can you describe how things were in your game?
Well, for that specific cycle, I had triggered the viliana sex scene in the ice dungeon before attempting to betray the Vizier. Because of that, Viliana was locked up in Amiel's house for the rest of the cycle, and thus didn't appear in the castle as I made my way through it. Subsequently, she wasn't there when I needed to offer her to the goblin, and thus I was stuck in the castle, unable to betray the Vizier. Seemingly, my only choice was to use the stone at that point. It's possible I could've missed some other option, but attempting to talk to the Vizier to betray him just had Atreyan saying something about how it's not time to do that yet or similar.

It's been a while, so I might have a detail wrong here, but Viliana should appear during the betrayal ending regardless of any decisions made during the main game. Upper right room instead of upper left.

DLSite being a Japanese company, they required me to make a censored version of the game. =/ Since this was an offshoot of the uncensored game, I'm afraid there isn't any built-in way to convert it back, sorry.

I've gotten mixed feedback about whether or not the game can work on Android (the added jump key makes phone play difficult) so I'm afraid I can't really support it. Between those two, the itch.io version does have a few minor bugs fixed, but they're generally pretty similar.

I don't get how Japanese law works, because dlsite censors but Mangagamer doesn't (for non-Japanese games). And they're based in Japan too.
My guess is that if you have servers outside of Japan you should be able to legally sell uncensored, so I don't get dlsite's policy. I buy Japanese stuff from them but would never get a non-Japanese product I can get uncensored elsewhere.
I hope your sales do well on itch.io because they're both consumer and developer friendly. If only we could track their sales through isthereanydeal.com... It seems to have a non-lewd game policy, non-nudity games from the site can be added to their sales watchlist just fine.

ReplyDeleteHe's the final boss, and there's no special trick to the fight. It helps to bring the equipment you've earned from all the optional challenges. Most important is each character's unique armor, obtained in their special solo cycle. Hope that helps!
DeleteThanks I finally defeated the slime! The armors made the boss battle a lot easier, they even prevented a one shot attack. Btw, great story and satisfying ending! I'll go for TLS next or maybe find a different route in crimson gray.

If I understand you correctly, you're having trouble with the final boss and with Atreyan's solo challenge? For the final boss, getting everybody's unique equipment is the best way, so you're on the right track.
For Atreyan's solo challenge, it's harder to know what to say. Have you noticed that all the enemies use elemental attacks and have elemental weaknesses? Atreyan can bring all the armor/swords into his solo dungeon, then switch them in between rounds for free. Doing this should make it much easier to survive.

ReplyDeleteHi, sorry for the delay in this response. Both of these issues sound like your computer doesn't have permission to make changes to the game's folder. This might happen if you put the game within an important folder or (less likely) the game files were marked as read-only. You could right click and select "Properties," then see if the read-only box near the bottom is checked.

Hi Sierra, I think similar to Gabriel I had difficulty running the game on a Mac. I was unable to save the game or change any options, and got this error for Error: EROFS: read-only file system, mkdir 'Folder name'

I'm afraid I don't know enough to give you specific instructions, but I can say that this has come up multiple times. In the past, the issue has been something with the game's folder being in the wrong place or otherwise not having permission to save.

DeleteI downloaded "Desecration of Wings" from a pirate website a few weeks ago and one of the first things I noticed, was that unlike what seemed from the thumbnail, this was a western RPG, not a JRPG. I nearly deleted it from that.
ReplyDeleteBut as I went through the game, I got lured into it. The pacing was excelent, the story was interesting, the relationship between characters was very well constructed.
Then, when it reached the point where I had to go all over the world to get an alternative ending, it really made me happy that an erotic game had that much detail and effort into it.
And finally, after I got the ending... Jesus, it was good. It was DAMN GOOD and satisfying. Seriously. Your effort really showed off and a western RPG like yours, stood as one of the best RPGs I ever played. Congratulations.
Anyways, just wish you to know that your game was so good I had to buy it and come here congratulate you for making it. Everything on it was top-notch and I also bought Ouroboros along with it, and will be playing it tonight.

ReplyDeleteI recently got Ouroboros on Steam, and while the game itself works fine, the H-scenes don't occur. The screen just blacks out for a second before returning to normal. In the gallery, none of the scenes, except the ending, are unlocked and when I try to use the ending, the blackout occurs. What's going on?
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like the NSFW patch didn't take, possibly due to a permissions issue. I would suggest doing a clean install and trying it again.

And while it run smoother than the demo version(Mac) it had several problems that made it unplayable.
The controls for the game do not to work on a phone, which meant complete inability to access the menu. Which also meant it was impossible to save the game, to equip items or potions, or monitor your party's stats.
Hell, I barely managed to jump the barrier leading out of the spawn zone!
If this is a pirated version good riddance!
If it's a legitimate version, somebody screwed up big time!
Everything you've mentioned sounds like you're playing a pirated version. I've tried to provide an APK to a few people but I can't promise Android support.
