Once Ever After Update + TLS News

Hey, everyone. It's been a stranger month than usual for me, but I didn't want to leave everyone only following the blog in the dark. So I'll be giving a quick taste of recent Patreon updates.

I've been working on Once Ever After for three years now, slowly fitting in progress while the artists I was commission moved it forward. Now, at long last, Crescentia has finished all the scenes planned for her (20+ scenes, 150+ images total), so last month I dedicated a block of time to trying to finish OEA. It isn't finished yet, but this new Steam update shows off some of my progress:

However, there are some lingering programming issues and a few of the minor artists have gone AWOL, so toward the end of July I wasn't able to keep myself busy with OEA work. So though I still intend to move OEA forward, I shifted to spending the majority of my time on TLS 0.53.0 again.

That is the current situation and plan. The next TLS update won't be out right away, but it's my primary focus and the two updates covering the Gathering should come out without excess delay between them. Meanwhile, please also look forward to Once Ever After!

  3. Thank you very much for the update! You have a lot of stuff in your shoulders. If I were you I would wait another moonth and bring the complete gathering together. On the last updates I saw how you have a bit of stress with all the stuff, games, novels, being dependant by others, dividing your time between of all them, take your time and dont rush things. I think right now its a good opportunity to wait and give a solid update. Its just an opinion!

    1. I considered putting both Gathering updates together, and it's still possible, but I'm leaning toward two different updates. Rest assured that I'll pick the one that I think is best for the game overall, including my well-being and keeping up momentum.

  4. The first sentence got me quite scared. As well as this year seems to go for, what feels like everyone, I feared something bad happened.

I actually wondered the last weeks when we'll see an other game from you. Here is my to that question answer. I'm looking forward to your spin of little Redhood, like you did with Don't Save the Princess.

I hope live treats you well at the moment, besides the game development stress of course.

    1. This has been a rough year, but it's only slowed me down a bit, never hit my life in a tragic way. I'm staying safe and taking precautions, never fear!

In any case, please look forward to more TLS as well as (hopefully) finally releasing these side projects before too long. ^-^

  5. I will never understand how you manage to do so many things and juggle so many tasks concurrently. Best of luck the hard work and passion put into your games is self-evident.

  6. This post does raise a question I've been thinking about for a while now. Where can I find free updates that you put out other than your blog. I don't mean content updates (although that would be nice too :D), but progress updates. I'm a bit strapped for cash right now so I can't really back you on Patreon, so that's why I was wondering about free updates. I see you posted a steam link. Does that mean that you post updates on there too?

Also, in an unrelated note, I heard/read somewhere that Patreon is getting sued into oblivion or something and that creators are having to abandon ship to other platforms to maintain monetary compensation and stuff. Being a content creator, have you heard anything like that? And even if it's just an unfounded rumor, do you have other ways you can keep working on games? Are you insured in case the worst should happen? I get that your books are providing you some income, but I can't imagine that losing a sizeable monthly income wouldn't hinder you in some way. Well...unless you don't do anything but save.

    1. There isn't a good place to get regular content updates other than Patreon, sorry. If you follow my upcoming games on Steam, you'll get occasional updates on them, but they're not like Patreon weekly reports. Those are the reward for $1 supporters, though I completely understand that won't work for everyone.

Patreon lost a step in a lawsuit that means they might need to pay certain costs up front. It's not a trivial development, but the discussion of it also tends to be fairly partisan, so it's not as cut and dried as some present it. Legal issues tend to be messy and move very slowly, so I'll monitor it over time.

If Patreon did collapse, I would officially move to SubscribeStar, but realistically only a small percentage of supporters would make the jump. This would definitely suck, but I've been conscious of this possibility from the beginning, taking steps like finishing other games and books. Patreon disappearing would no longer prevent me from finishing TLS, though it would slow down development and be a problem for the art.

  7. Did you know Patreon is currently being sued in to the stone age?
It might be a good idea to look at migrating to a different platform,at the very least keep an eye on the situation.
