TLS 0.21.0 Released!

New update for patrons! Version history updated, you know what to do, etc.

Version 0.21.0
 - New section of the game, finishing the elven section of the plot.
 - Four new plot sex scenes.
 - Six new affection sex scenes.

I'm still pretty busy with the commercial release of Ouroboros (the free version is still available!). This is also a larger-than-average release with more moving parts, so I'm budgeting extra time for bugfixes. Therefore, I'm planning to have this release available publicly on November 18.

That's all for now, I'm headed straight back to work! I hope to wrap up Ouroboros and be providing more updates for TLS very soon. ^-^

  2. Strangely, I can't comment on the new post anymore. Are you stopping posts there for now because you're putting up another updated version with current fixes, or is this some weird Patreon error? (Likely a Patreon error since I tried to message you there and it didn't seem to go through...)

    Also, my post was:

    Not a bug this time but a question. How many Shining Swords are we up to at this point? I only found one in the update so far, not sure how many I should have found in the entire game though.

  4. Another bug... It seems like you are supposed to be able to get the Lightwood AND the Darkwood from the Alchemist is you get both Emerald Leaves and Crystal Leaves considering the dialogue she has with you when you find her. However due to the conditionals in the code, you can only get one of them? For some reason my save will not let me get the Darkwood, even though I did save Altina and I have her with me.

    1. I even went into the code to make the AltinaGONE switch turn off, and it still wouldn't give it to me. I assumed that the problem was that the switch hadn't turned off somehow, or had turned on incorrectly (not sure if I sent her to the elves or not back then) but it still didn't work. Must be something else with it.

    2. Not bugged, actually. One version of Altina only needs Lightwood, the other only needs Darkwood. This was meant to add flavor to her variants, so you don't need the second one.

      Now, if the Potion Hermit asked for both items, then it may be bugged. She's supposed to only ask to trade the appropriate one for your Altina.

    3. Yeah she asked for all three items, Kingsfoil, Crystal leaves, and the Emerald Leaves, which is why I thought I needed all three.

    4. I should mention that this Altina was the "Hard" version I think? I think you have AltinaHard as the reshaped one instead of the slut one anyway.

  5. Oh yeah. Once the bug fixes are done, I'm going to restart the whole game from scratch. I love to do that because I don't want any old save bugs that might cause the game to crash... :D

  6. Found a pretty bad bug, once you're done with the investigation of the murder in Theiltiar, if you speak with the sister again it will freeze the game. Kinda like it's waiting for more dialog to start, but it's getting hung up somewhere.

    1. Figured this out, if you stand to the right of her when you speak with her, you block the path she takes when the dialog is over and it gets stuck. So, stand either under or to the left of her and it will be fine. Otherwise, we just have to wait till Sierra Lee figures out how to avoid it getting hung like that.

  7. So,does version 21 point something mean that the game is about 21% complete according to your plan sierra lee?

    1. No, the second number is only the number of major content updates. It wasn't 90% done at 0.9.0 and it could hypothetically go to 0.100.0, 0.101.0, etc.

      It won't, though. The game might not be finishing any time soon, but it's way more than 21% complete. I like long games, but I know my limits. XD

      other way to see it: the premise of your game is that acting like a hero in a game gets you killed...well wars can get very long :P

  9. Thanks for the great game. Bug report:

    When entering the eastern elven villiage, Altina and Aka will start a convo even if you lose Altina earlier in Yhilin.

    If you revisit the bottom right part of the map where you had the succubi orgy in the last release, there is a guard that will spam a message and make Simon move back. This gets caught on loop and the game must be reset.

    1. Glad you liked it! The first bug is fixed, but the second I can't duplicate... can you give any more information about the exact conditions under which the move back event looped?

    1. The bug is built into the engine itself, not my game in particular, so I'm afraid there's no quick fix.

  11. Does a good story need and end ?

    Life do not, and so, even if there will probably be a time (do you know of openMW ?) where a more interesting tool is available, quite a tough question it is, this considered.

    1. There are obviously differences of opinion here, but I think a good story does need an end. Life as a whole might not have an end, but life is not a good story.

      I was unfamiliar with openMW prior to your comment. One thing I will say is that I am unlikely to do any significant remaking of TLS in the near future. It would hypothetically be possible after the completion of the game, if I felt I had a compelling reason to believe I could make a version of the game even truer to my vision, but I don't want to get trapped in cycles of remaking.

    2. Indeed, no worry and in any case, no pressure, openmw is close to 1.0 (for month :p), knowing the settings, it is quite between good to better this way, even if there is no way to tell about the update once 1.0 is released.

      That project has been around for three years or may be more, going with two major changes (architectures, base tool).

      Still, once the world pack(s) are released, it should be quite efficient (knowing they are quite neat script related).

      Then, it would be quite something else, but as said, no yet, and even then, a start in any case.

      Still, to be seen, no change there.

  13. Also, is there a way to go from the map from the previous version (the one where the hooded npc tell it is the current end of the game), while the next part is currently in (guess there should be a way to get out of that map ?).

    1. It should transport you automatically. I see the event that should do this and it looks to be set up correctly, but I suppose there may be a bug I am missing.

  14. Found a Bug in TLS 0.21.0 in Chapter 2 if u need the House Jade employees to copy the old clerk who says that he wants to buy a painting block my path outside the building. The scene went first time totally normal but i had already to much copies so Trin was unable to copy him after that I went out of the shop/pub went back again and the old man was at the entrance. I was able to get in but not out anymore. Lucky I´m using many savefiles so i could get back and skip that.

  15. How does using already existing save files from previous versions work with new versions? Do I have to do something special to be able to use them or do the updates apply right to the game and I just continue?

    1. Also I really love this game and am excited to see it continue. Everything just works together so well. It has a nice spin on the "hero" story of an RPG paired with both good plot and character development. It's also refreshing to see a game with finite resources such as the no/few respawn and in turn with that the limited Sx as well. If and when the time comes for this game to end I would love to see another game in the same style as this one done in the future. Thanks for all the great work. :D

    4. When the time comes for TLS to end, my next project will definitely have many of the same aspects. Not all of them, because there are a wide variety of stories and mechanics I'd like to explore, but if you like TLS, then you probably like the core of what I want to do. ^-^

  16. Strange, it seem Im stuck on the "end" (map with only the hooded npc), and so, since it seem I did not save for quite some time, no way to get out of there ? (Will have the same worry later on, since over 0.21 I've also only a save over that area) (do not ask, I've used a savegame from someone else as to get further (quite past where I should have been since it was close to going back to Yilhin).

    1. The end maps are always supposed to transport you to the next section, don't worry. I'll take another look at this one and hopefully the next version of the game will move you onward.

    2. Yes, that was what Ive been remembering, in case, could you add a door of a path as to allow for another way to get out (that way, if one is not functional, the backup still allow for going forward).

    3. That idea sounds fine, but unfortunately games are not exactly engineering, so redundant systems don't always work that way. Things like this don't fail due to a mechanical problem, but generally an oversight on my part or some sort of systemic issue, so having two of them might not help (and doubles the number of things that could accidentally go wrong).

  18. If you do decide to get artists to draw scenes in this game, would you be willing to spring for...I don't want to be mean, but less cartoon-y art? The cgs for ouroborous, or however you spell it, seemed too silly. This is just my opinion, but it wouldn't fit the tone of the game, ya know?

    1. I felt the art for Ouroboros was a good match for the game's bright aesthetic. TLS is a different game, and a much darker one overall, so of course I would choose an artist who was an appropriate match for the game's feel.

      Times and dates are given in North American time zones and I update in the evening, so it's a little while yet. However, I am working on the final additions and polishing, so you can expect 0.21.2 to be released later today.

      I'm assuming this is about TLS and not Ouroboros given that the latest release of Ouroboros is Commercial. So it should come out later today if all is well.
