Year One

A year ago today, I posted the first version of this game. Going to share a few thoughts about that, so if you're looking for game updates, you can skip this one.

Back then, I had no idea if anyone would be interested in the kind of game I wanted to make. And looking back, starting with something as meta as TLS was probably a mistake. But I'm glad to have found so many people who enjoy what I've created!

A lot of things were different then. I was working two jobs, one mediocre and one miserable, and hoped this could at best let me drop the worse one. Now, I'm looking very seriously at doing it full time. Since I'm a cautious person, let's just say fingers crossed for now.

Looking over my progress, I'm fairly happy with how I've stayed on schedule. I didn't plan on all Stineford's quests taking an additional month to complete, but otherwise the game is proceeding according to plan.

Of course, you all know I'm aiming to make something really huge. Almost all the pieces are on the table now, but I'm aiming to bring everything to a satisfying resolution and that will take a while. We'll see where we are in another year's time, but I promise it will be on the other side of a lot of updates. ^-^

Thank you so much for all your support!

  3. Happy anniversary!

Man, i already have nostalgia remembering the time i play this game the first time..

The asshole-ish main character who turned out not so main character at all..
How meta this game was at that time..
The "initial name" of this game who seriously raise my eyebrow back then..
How i'm confused about how can a simple english H-game can be so engaging..
    Man..

I wish you good luck, and hope that TLS can become one masterpiece that you can be proud of, Sierra.

  4. I love this game, and not just for the dirty stuff. The story is interesting, the characters are fun, there's a great mix of humor and serious that fits perfectly in the whole. Here's to another year!

  5. It has been a genuine pleasure and honour (and to hell with the american spelling), you've made a really great game and you should be proud of yourself. So move forward with your head held high and we, your fans will follow.

May we all be here next year as well.

    1. I'm really jealous of your prose *lol*. Are you interested in creating little quotes for the wiki?

    2. I'm not sure they are anything to be jealous of, but I don't mind creating quotes for the wiki if it's within my power.

    3. Glad to have you with me, hope to see you again many times! ^-^

    4. Well i'll definitely be around so you probably will.

    5. So what kind of quotes were you looking for?

      Delete
    6. I'm thinking something along the lines of the quote that you can read at the start of the Equipment page:

Sadly not everything you carry helps you kill people fast, that's why you need some things to help keep people from killing you, which happens quite a lot really. So don't forget to bring some gear to help keep you safe whether you buy it or loot it.

I have to confess that it's a exact replica of the text on the Harem Collector wiki, I'd love to have more original material...

    7. So something like:
"In some games you can mash attack to win, but in The Last Sovereign such tactics will get you killed time and time again. So if it's items that raise your stats to increase healing/damage or armors to prevent you from being wiped out, make sure your team have the stuff they need to see it though and come out on top."

      Delete
    8. Or maybe something more "intense":

"In a world embroiled in wars your team must fight to survive and progress. To overcome the many and varied hostile encounters you'll need to be prepared; so if you rip it from the corpses of your foes or buy it from a merchant make sure you have the right equipment needed to obtain victory or you WILL perish..."?

    9. That is good! I prefer the second option.

If you want to do more you can contact me by PM (I have the same nickname on all of them) in any of the following forums (you will find the links on the Main page of the Wikia):
      -BKG
      -Fenoxo thread
      -Futanari Palace
      -HentHighSchool
      -Hongfire
      -LoK

or in my wall in the wikia ( you don't need to register to post there) to talk about more quotes for the pages on the Guides & Items sections.

I don't want to invade this blog with more Wiki stuff, Sierra is a great host but others can be annoyed by this comments, that not are related directly to the game.

  6. Gratz on the milestone, SL! I'm continually impressed with the updates, even if I don't always manage to get feedback to you(everyone else keeps stealing words out of my mouth, the bastards), and I'm still a happy patron all these months later.

I'm glad that I took a chance on you and TLS, and even more pleased that we're (possibly!) going to get you to do this full time - TOTALLY not for selfish reasons or anything, you understand. >.>

Anyway, enough rambling, best of luck and keep kickin' ass!

  7. You definitely have talent as a writer. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise. Keep cultivating it and maybe on day you'll be able to turn it into a fully-fledged job.
Good luck, I'm looking forward to your next updates.

  8. It's an excellent piece of work, and you're right to be proud of it. The first RPG Maker game I ever got into was Embric of Wulfhammer's Castle. I've enjoyed other products in the intervening time (Harem Collector, Overwhored, some of the japanese stuff like Virgin Island), but nothing that touched that one for humor and emotion and brilliant, incisive dialogue.

So please take it as one of the best compliments I can give that I think of your work as a slower, more stately Embric. There's many reasons I (only half-jokingly) call that game the best game ever created, and I see a lot of the same qualities in Last Sovereign.

  10. Hey, I just noticed a bug. During Megail's route, a sex scene involving
Simon played after resting on the bed. Seeing as Simon is currently detained by the Empress of the Orgasmic Empire, I can only assume that I set off a flag later than you would have expected. Also, during Yarra's route, the Draconic succubus kept holding me up with her after battle message. It just kept playing over and over again, even when trying to run away from her, Yarra would just stand in place while the message played about ten times, until she was finally able to break free. What's more, because the succubus chases Yarra fairly fast, she kept catching up and repeating the action. Just thought that I'd mention these since I just found them today.

    1. The succubus bug I knew about, but you're the first to catch that bed. Thanks!

  11. I've also noticed that the quest Preparation and almost all of the Megail route quests won't complete. Some of the objectives just won't update to completed. I've played this before, so I know that I did all that I could, but it could get confusing if the problem is not adressed. P.S. how do you "consolidate economic resources" for the Preparation quest in chapter 2? No matter what I try, I just can't get that objective to be completed.

    1. Hmm, I thought I got that quest problem fixed. I'll have to look into it more.

As for that objective, it's your overall goal, you can't succeed or fail it.

  13. This is the best H-Game I've played in recent memory. It's exceptionally rare for a game to elicit so much emotion. Even if that emotion isn't always pleasant.

Thanks for making something like this. For the future you have your sights on the moon, and I wish you all the best in pulling that trigger.

P.S. How is everything so devoid of errors in this game? You don't often see an H-Game with such grammatical clarity and so free of spelling errors. Do you have an editor or is it just bug reports by fans?
The only notable issue I noticed was that after the chapter time skip if you spoke to Trin it assumed you had spoken to Robin; which may be intentional anyway.

    1. Thank you, glad you're enjoying the ride. While the game's arc will feature some low points, I've always been clear I'm aiming for a satisfying conclusion. Hopefully by then it will really feel earned.

While I do think of myself as a writer and try my best to make the game error-free, the main people you have to thank are all the devoted fans who find bugs or tell me when I've missed a typo. With their help, I try to maintain the standard I've set.

As for the Trin conversation, I meant that one to imply that Simon and Robin had spoken during the time skip, yeah.

  15. I've been having a ton of fun, and I've been really, REALLY impressed.
Now I'm just stuck at the Unpeople. Should my party be going down in 2 hits? I have really bad luck of the draw with the Inhuman attacks that do 700+ damage, and Hilstara can't even provoke them into attacking her 100% of the time. Qum seems useless against the Unperson because once Sexbound there's no way to cure it? Wait, now that I think about it I've never had Robin use Cure on Qum... Guess I'll go try that.
    -_-
Sorry for sucking at RPGs, and good job with this! Can't wait to beat Chapter 1(I'm hoping it doesn't get much harder then this.)

    1. Thanks, glad you like it!

As for the Unpeople, don't worry, that boss is one of the more difficult points. Difficulty will rise and flow as appropriate for the plot. You may want to check the wiki for more tips, but I can say a few general things that might be helpful. Taking Qum or Yarra into the battle is generally a bad idea, since the Unpeople are designed to shut succubi down. Take a group of humans and use your mages to heal and it should get easier.

      Delete
    2. The only reason I can ever get the Unperson below half health is because he doesn't spam Inhuman Aura all the time -_-
A party of humans, as far as I know, don't have any ways to deal with it as the only magic protection I can get is from the succubi.
Aka is useless once KOed because she gets knocked out again every turn I revive her. Though I got lucky against the guardians of the Shining Sword and got a couple crits with her that got me the win.
Simon and Hilstara are the only ones who can take more then 2 hits, but Hilstara can't buy much time because The Unperson out-damages all my healing. Robin helps but she has to get put on healing duty for the failing tanks lest she get destroyed(she still gets killed by 2 Inhuman Auras though).

Also why doesn't Shieldwall properly provoke them? The Unpeople randomly attacking Aka instead of Shieldwall Hilstara is what ends my game a lot of the time.

Am I too low level? I might be.
      Simon is 18
      Aka is 16
      Hilstara is 17
      Robin is 15

Should I go back and do more battles?

    3. Haha, nevermind, I cracked the code.
      Qum>Aka
Qum saved my hide when I switched her in

    4. Now to find the freaking Yhilini Arms Dealer so I can get out of town already

      Delete
    5. Well, glad you got through. ^-^ For anyone else reading, if your characters seem this fragile during this fight, you may want to check your equipment. It will make a bigger difference than a few levels.

      Delete
    6. You could also just get Robin as early as possible and use her lightning magics to deal major damage to it.

      Delete
    7. To me, the key in that dungeon is Robin. Buff up her stats as much as you can and spam Lightning. In my last playthrough, I was very near to reach Lightning Lance before the boss fight and it would have helped immensely.

      Delete
    8. That and she doesn't suffer the same "weakness" that Qum does while being almost as good a healer (depending on equipment of course).

      Delete
  16. I don't know if someone has asked about this already but in the quest Preparations is it possible to "avoid attracting attention" or is that just part of the plot that we fail it?
Also when do we get enough prons for investing in the Yhillin bank in merchant quarters?

    1. It's story related to fail that section of the quest. There is nothing you can do about it.

  17. Found this via LoK forums. Played the shit out of it the past few days. Very fun and engaging game, and sexy. Which is a very nice change from the bog-standard boring harem games with corny plots and idiotic premises. Looking forward to future updates.
